Nineteen people have been reportedly killed following crashes in Ekiti state
The casualties were recorded from 49 crashes which took place in 2016
The FRSC has advised road users to be more careful, and to adhere strictly to rules
The Federal Road Safety Corp, says 19 persons died in traffic crashes recorded within Ekiti state in 2016.
Ekiti sector command of the FRSC, said a total of 49 crashes were recorded in the passing year.
The FRSC Sector Commander in the state, Mr Ismaila Kugu, made this known on Thursday in an interview with the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) in Ado-Ekiti.
He advised drivers and other road users to refrain from using cell phones while driving or walking on the road.
Kugu also warned against the use of fairly used tyres, especially at a period of unfriendly weather.
Motorists, he added, must also be cautious on the roads in view of the current hazy weather which limits vision.
He said the command was poised to sensitise residents of the state on road traffic crash and its management in a bid to reduce carnages on the highways.
The sensitisation programme, he said, would focus on speed limit as well as eye sight and “don’t drink while driving ” campaign.
Meanwhile, FRSC) has alerted the public to be weary of a recruitment notice circulating on social media asking members of the public to pay some money for recruitment into the FRSC.
The Sun reports that the commission in a statement said the FRSC boss, Corps Marshal Dr Boboye Oyeyemi, does not have a face book or twitter account and that the corps is presently not recruiting.
The statement signed by Dr Kayode Olagunju , Asst Corps Marshal Policy Research and Statistics attributed the reports of the purported recruitment to the activities of fraudsters.
